Irvine Leadership Award
2013 James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award Recipient
We are thrilled to announce that TransForm’s Executive Director, Stuart Cohen, was selected as a recipient of the James Irvine Foundation 2013 Leadership Award. Stuart earned this prestigious honor for over fifteen years of impact as a champion for innovative regional planning to create affordable, vibrant communities that improve quality of life and help the environment.
About the award
Now in its ninth year, the James Irvine Foundation Leadership Awards recognize and support individuals who are advancing innovative and effective solutions to significant issues in California. Nominees may be working in any field — such as education, health, public safety, economic development or the environment — in the public, private or nonprofit sector.
The Foundation provides each award recipient with $125,000 to support his or her work benefiting the people of California and assists recipients in sharing their promising approaches with policymakers and practitioners in their fields. Stuart was honored along with the other recipients at a formal awards ceremony in Sacramento on February 4. Senate President Pro Tem Darell Steinberg, author of SB 375, California’s groundbreaking Sustainable Communities law, presented Stuart his award.

About Stuart Cohen
Stuart co-founded TransForm in 1997 and has since led the organization in building broad coalitions and championing innovative planning efforts that improve the quality of life for communities in the San Francisco Bay Area and, increasingly, throughout California.
Through innovative programs like GreenTRIP, which certifies new housing developments that are designed to rely less on cars, and hard-hitting advocacy campaigns that have made a splash everywhere from local city councils to Washington, D.C., TransForm is dedicated to building a movement to redefine transportation in terms of choices, sustainability, and health.
