Costs, Timeline, & Funding
The construction of the Stevens Creek Corridor BRT Project (De Anza College to Downtown San Jose) is estimated to cost between $145 million to $232 million, depending on whether a single reversible lane or a viaduct is built by Valley Fair Mall. Additionally, the corridor will require 17 new BRT vehicles that will cost an estimated $18.7 million. BRT service along the corridor is expected to start between 2017 and 2018 with the majority of the funding for the project expected to come from Measure A and Prop 1B.
Opportunities to Spur Pedestrian Friendly Development
The City of San Jose is planning for San Carlos Street and Winchester Boulevard to accommodate a considerable amount of the City’s future growth. The 523 BRT project will help to facilitate this development by significantly improving transit service along the corridor while reducing the demand for expensive and environmentally harmful parking lots, road widening, and other auto-oriented land uses.
