TransForm is an award-winning nonprofit that has won literally billions of dollars and groundbreaking policies in support of public transportation, smart growth, affordable housing, and bicycle/pedestrian safety.

TransForm leads the way in creating more convenient, thriving places in the Bay Area and California where it is easier for everyone to walk, bike, carpool, and take public transportation for more trips – plus inspiring more to do so.  

By taking or supporting, you help TransForm advocate for better walking, biking and public transportation options.

Here's what we can make happen with your help in 2010:

  1. Win tens of billions of federal dollars for public transportation, walking, and biking options.  The federal transportation bill has historically been mostly about highways.  TransForm is coordinating the Transportation For America campaign here in California so the new bill shifts a huge percent of funds towards public transportation, smart growth, and keeping our existing transportation infrastructure in great shape.  
  2. Get state funding for public transportation restored and permanently protected.  We now have a satellite office in Sacramento and are ready to fight even harder for the public transportation funds that have been illegally grabbed for the state's General Fund in past years – and keep these permanently off-limits.
  3. Have California set tough targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions through better land use and transportation options.  By September of 2010 each region in California will be assigned a transportation-related emissions target for 2020 and 2035.  Then regions must create an integrated land use and transportation plan to meet the targets.  But if the emissions targets are not very tough, sprawl could continue as usual.  TransForm is working in Sacramento to help prove that ambitious targets can and must be met to protect our climate, local environment, and economy.
  4. Make it possible for every child in the Bay Area to walk and bike safely to school – and inspire hundreds of thousands to do so every day. 
  5. Transform people's perception of public transportation.  We want to show people how great public transportation can be, which is why we're working in the South and East Bays to get Bus Rapid Transit successfully on the ground.  With its dedicated lanes, state-of-the-art buses, and other key features, Bus Rapid Transit is an affordable way to make bus service much faster and more reliable.  
  6. Prove that you can build new developments with less parking and more walkability – all while reducing congestion and emissions.  TransForm recently launched GreenTRIP, which certifies new residential and mixed-use developments that keep the number of new parking spaces as low as possible and offer incentives for new tenants to drive less.
  7. Empower even more people to get involved in transportation and land use decision-making.  When people play a central role in shaping the future of their communities, amazing things happen.  They win more affordable housing, better transit service, new parks, and more.  TransForm will continue to work in key areas around the region to ensure people are engaged in making their communities better while preserving what they love most about them.
