Sending an Important Message

The Car-Free Challenge is More Than Just Fun - We Have Something to Say!

The Car-Free Challenge and all its participants sends an important message to our leaders: that a critical mass of people want to drive less and live more - which is why we need better options for walking, biking, and taking public transportation!

This is a timely message to send because of SB 375, a new law in California that will require regions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improving transportation choices and how communities are designed so they require less driving.  

Right now, leaders are deciding by how much metropolitan regions will have to reduce their emissions by 2020 and 2035 through better transportation and land use.  We need them to aim high, but currently they're debating between just 4% and 5% emissions reductions by 2020!

This is not enough.  The Car-Free Challenge will prove that lots of people support driving less and can cut their driving by much more than 5% instantly by using options already available. Imagine how much less everyone will be able to drive if our leaders aggressively push for more public transportation options and more walkable communities!

Help us send this message loud and clear by participating in the Car-Free Challenge in 2010 or making a contribution to TransForm!  TransForm is sharing the results of the Challenge with decision-makers to show them that we need to aim high in reducing emissions from transportation and land use.
