Take Action to Support Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

Related Campaign:
Bus Rapid Transit

The current objective for the cities of Berkeley, San Leandro and Oakland is to agree upon a "Locally Preferred Alternative" (LPA) to be studied, which is a detailed proposal of how BRT should run through each city.

The LPA will include proposed station locations, dedicated lane locations, mitigations to parking and traffic impacts, which will all be studied and analyzed in the Final Environmental Impact Report.

While there is general support for the project, some residents are expressing concerns with the proposed station spacing (up to 1/3 of a mile apart), and some merchants are expressing concerns over the potential loss of street parking that their businesses depend on.

The conundrum is that the more BRT stations we have, the more potential there is for parking to be removed. We're calling on the Cities and AC Transit to design a creative BRT system that has as many BRT stations as necessary to meet today's and future transit riders needs, while using this planning opportunity to come up with a creative parking strategy that better suits the needs of merchants and their customers.

Please join TransForm in calling for the careful study of a "full-build" BRT (Bus Rapid Transit with dedicated lanes, stations and a creative parking strategy) at Oakland's next meetings:
