Gendered Perspectives of Bay Area Transit Event Series September 2024
Join the Transbay Coalition during the 2024 Bay Area Transit Month for a deep dive into the intersections of gender and transit with this series of events featuring leaders in the field of transit. From governance of transit agencies to the day-to-day operations of buses, trains, and ferries to advocacy & activism — the way we all get around the Bay Area is not gender-neutral. Tune in to learn how transit shapes people’s experience in a gendered way and how by incorporating different gender backgrounds into transit work, we can make a transportation system that works better for everyone.

The event series kicks off on September 10th with a panel discussion between transit agency Board Members to be moderated by Laura Tolkoff, SPUR’s Transportation Policy Director. The panelists are Lateefah Simon of BART, Cindy Chavez of VTA, and Jovanka Beckles of AC Transit.

A panel discussion between transit professionals in coordination with WTS San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. The panel is moderated by Jasmin Mejia, Transportation Environmental Planner Group Leader at the engineering, technical, professional, and construction services firm Jacobs. Ms. Mejia is also the President of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of WTS, which is an international organization dedicated to shaping the future of transportation for the public good through the global advancement of women.
The panelists are Kate Miller, Executive Director of the Napa Valley Transportation Authority; Myeisha Williams, General Manager of the Transdev Antioch, location and Shannon Arms, Operations Manager at VTA. Register today to tune in to this unique Transit Month event!
#3 Transit Advocacy & Activism

The third panel in the series is a moderated discussion between transit advocates & activists. The panel is co-hosted by SF Transit Riders and Transbay Coalition and moderated by Thea Selby, Co-founder of the San Francisco Transit Riders and Voices for Public Transportation.
The panelists are Haleema Bharoocha (MPP) who helped lead Phase One of BART’s “Not One More Girl” campaign; Lian Chang is a proponent of Prop L: Fund the Bus and has previously supported transit lanes through Faster Safer Geary; and Abibat Rahman-Davies, Transform’s Transportation Policy Advocate.
#4 Gendered Perspectives of Bay Area Transit Celebration: “The Rosie Ride & Mixer”

The culmination celebration of the “Gendered Perspectives of Bay Area Transit” event series with “The Rosie Ride & Mixer.” On September 28th, join the panelists, moderators, your fellow attendees, and the general public for a mixer event on the ferry from San Francisco to Richmond, followed by a brief program and special tour of the Rosie the Riveter World War II Home Front National Historical Park Visitor Center!
The event starts at 1:45 pm at the San Francisco Ferry Terminal F2 by the Ferry Building, and together, participants will take the 2:05 pm ferry to Richmond, during which attendees can mix and mingle.
Once in Richmond, there will be a brief program with special guests followed by time to explore the Rosie the Riveter Visitor Center to learn more about the pivotal role thousands of Bay Area women played in winning World War Two.
Afterwards there will be a break for refreshments before the attendees heading back to San Francisco catch the 5:15pm ferry west. We look forward to having you join us on this momentous occasion.
