Transform is looking for a paid 2026 fall intern to support our Safe Routes to Schools and Community Engagement Programs. The internship will run from late August to mid-December.

Our 2026 Fall Intern will get hands-on experience at the intersection of education, community engagement, and equitable mobility across Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. We are looking for college students or early-career professionals to support real-world outreach projects while developing practical skills in outreach, event planning, communications, and project management.

Our Fall Intern will work alongside Transform staff and regional partners on initiatives such as Safe Routes to Schools, Community-Based Transportation Needs Assessments, and tenant engagement on climate-friendly mobility. These experiences help interns build professional networks, deepen their understanding of transportation burdens in marginalized communities, and contribute to leadership development for people often left out of decision-making, including youth and seniors.

This temporary 4-month hybrid position offers resume-building experience for early-career professionals, recent graduates, and students eager to drive real community-based transportation solutions in the Bay Area. Our Fall Intern will be paid $22 per hour with an expectation of working 10-15 hours a week.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Conduct outreach tabling at community events, farmers markets, neighborhood gatherings, and other public spaces to promote
• Transform’s programs and engage the community.
• Assist the Programs Team with other community engagement activities as needed, including supporting coalition meetings, community forums, and neighborhood outreach efforts.
• Facilitate age-appropriate educational presentations on active and shared transportation from K-12 students to senior citizens.
• Collaborate with team members to plan education and encouragement activities and events, including but not limited to: mobility fairs, Walk and Roll to School Days, etc.
• Attending weekly team meetings and in-person bi-monthly all-staff meetings.
• Providing administrative support as needed

Desired Qualifications

• Applicants should be college students or early career with excellent written and verbal communication skills; graphic design skills are a plus
• Basic knowledge and an interest in learning about transportation policies, practices, and agencies
• Understanding of how to plan and carry out a project
• Dedication to social justice and equity
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Confidence in comfortably and effectively communicating with diverse populations as part of our public outreach; experience working with K-12 schools a plus
• Ability to travel throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties using public transit and/or personal vehicle.
