Learn About Candidates for Bay Area Offices in the November Election
Transform joined with other transportation advocacy groups, led by the Transbay Coalition, to draft questionnaires on transit issues for candidates in the November general election. More than 60 candidates running for positions ranging from state senator to mayor and city council member responded to the questionnaires.
We’ve highlighted a few races below. You can find all the responses here.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Transform can’t endorse candidates for office. We are providing this educational information to elevate transportation issues in the general election and inform voters about where all the candidates stand on the issues we care about. We hope this helps you as you fill out your ballot in this November’s general election.

Transit boards
Voters in some parts of Alameda County will get to vote for an AC Transit director. And voters in Alameda and San Francisco counties will vote on open BART Board seats. These races are often lower-profile, with less information available about the candidates, but the positions are crucial.
AC Transit Director, Ward 6
AC Transit redrew its district lines; Ward 6 is a new district electing its first director. The district covers the western parts of southern Alameda County, including parts of Hayward and Newark. BART Board Director, District 7
The District 7 director represents San Francisco’s Bayview neighborhood, Treasure Island, Emeryville, Piedmont, Alameda, and parts of Oakland. The current director, Lateefah Simon, is running to fill Barbara Lee’s congressional seat. Victor Flores and Dana Lang are running to fill this position. Read their questionnaires.
BART Board Director, District 9
District 9 covers neighborhoods in central San Francisco as well as South of Market, stretching to the city’s southern boundary. Outgoing director and board president Bevan Dufty is not running for reelection. Joe Sangirardi and Edward Wright are running to fill the seat. Read their questionnaires.

San Francisco City and County

Alameda County
Candidates for mayor in Berkeley, Dublin, Fremont, and Pleasanton submitted answers to our questionnaire. We received responses from candidates for city council, Alameda County Board of Supervisors, the U.S. House of Representatives, the California State Senate, and the Assembly about their views on our transportation challenges.
