Transform Statement in Response to ICE Raids
Over the past few days, we have seen a disturbing escalation of government violence against our communities here in the Bay Area and Los Angeles. We are witnessing immigration enforcement agents forcibly removing members of our communities—including children as young as three—and the deployment of the National Guard and Marines to respond to peaceful protests.
Transform unequivocally stands against the violence, deportations, and arrests perpetrated by the Trump regime. These senseless and destructive actions are designed to divide and disorient us and to erode the very systems that allow people to build power together and speak up for change. This is the latest chapter in a long history in the U.S. of using state violence to police Black and Brown people, limiting their voices and access to public space. For generations, immigrant communities and other communities of color have faced disinvestment, displacement, and criminalization, undermining their ability to thrive.
Transform’s vision is built upon the idea that everyone should be able to safely move through public spaces and participate in civil society.
Housing and transportation justice are only possible when the communities that have been marginalized by racist policies have true power and a voice. When immigrant families are afraid to walk their kids to school, when people are detained on transit platforms, when protest is met with force—these are attacks on justice and democracy.
We are already seeing the impact. In our walking school bus program, parent leaders are afraid to show up. ICE has targeted Metro stations in East LA, threatening people’s freedom of movement. Resources that should go to housing, transportation, and climate solutions are instead fueling agencies that terrorize our communities.
This is not about immigration enforcement.
It’s about the right to live without fear, to move freely through our cities, to raise our voices, and to care for one another in public. The use of military force against immigrant families and peaceful protesters is an attack not just on those individuals but on every movement for justice.
At Transform, we believe that public space is meant for gathering, movement, and joy—not for policing, surveillance, or intimidation. The streets where families walk to school, where neighbors gather, where youth speak up for change—these are the very places where democracy lives and breathes. When that space is stolen through violence or intimidation, we all lose.
But we are not powerless. We are part of a long lineage of resistance—of people who have refused to be silenced, who have built joy, safety, and solidarity even under threat. We draw strength from that history, and from one another.
